WASHINGTON, DC: Senator John Fetterman rebuked the efforts of a group of Democrats to remove President Joe Biden from the presidential race by reiterating his support for the octogenarian after his first televised interview with ABC News since the debate debacle jeopardized his candidacy.

The Senator from Pennsylvania, who stood strong behind the president after he displayed a lackluster debate performance last week in front of former president Donald Trump, signaled that the Democrats vying for the incumbent's ouster were spineless.

Biden continues to face calls for his exit from the reelection bid from elected Democratic officials as well as donors who doubt his cognitive ability to lead the nation for one more term if elected in November.

John Fetterman doubles down on support to Joe Biden after ABC News interview

"Democrats need to get a spine or grow a set — one or the other. Joe Biden is our guy," John Fetterman wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, July 5, after Joe Biden's one-on-one with ABC News's George Stephanopoulos aired.

The president, to regain confidence among the panic-stricken Democrats, quashed all talks of his exit from the campaign by stating that only "the Lord almighty" could persuade him to do so. In addition, he also admitted the debate was a "bad episode" but dismissed all concerns about his mental and physical ability, saying he would not be running if he did not have that confidence, as per ABC News.

Prior to Biden's interview, Fetterman publicly defended him on X, writing, "I'm unwilling to discard a great president, a decent man, and a loving father after 50 years in public service, over a 90-minute debate. Responding with disorder, panic and disloyalty is not meeting this moment."

The Pennsylvania Democrat's unwavering support of the president was evident when the New York Times urged him to step down after his faltering debate show. Fetterman remarked, "f**k that," to his nearly a million followers on X.

The 54-year-old lawmaker faced a similar situation when his electability was questioned during his 2022 Senate race while recovering from a stroke. However, he won the election, securing over 200,000 votes.

Internet mocks John Fetterman for scolding Democrats who are abandoning Joe Biden

Netizens ridiculed John Fetterman for saying the Democrats fleeing Joe Biden "neet to get a spine."

"Birds of a feather flock together," a user wrote.

"John is losing this stance. He was making progress," another remarked.

"Apparently, Fetterman is going down down with the ship. That's what good firstmates do. He shouldn't expect everyone else to do the same," added another user.

"Yes John! Finally a captain that goes down with this ship," read one response.

"Sticking with Biden is a display of spinelessness. It’s replacing him that would actually require a spine or set," another user said.

"Oh good, the Democrats are resorting to their 'yelling at potential voters' strategy again. Worked real well in 2000 and 2016," someone else chimed in.

"John is working for that Republican victory because lately Fetterman has been a better man," quipped an individual.
