A group known as the Kogi State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Frontier has voiced its opposition to the selection of Mona Anyebe as the consensus chairmanship candidate for the party in the state.

In a statement issued by the group’s President, Umar Francis, the PDP Youth Frontier argued that the chairman should be chosen from among the candidates who have undergone the screening process, rather than being imposed through a consensus arrangement.

The group expressed concerns over the nomination of Anyebe, citing a petition submitted to the state caretaker committee and the national headquarters of the party.

The petition alleged that Anyebe had been suspended from his Ogugu Ward in Olamaboro Local Government for engaging in anti-party activities, and included evidence to support the claim.

The PDP Youth Frontier criticized the failure to address these concerns and called for a fair and transparent election process.

Additionally, the group highlighted the rejection of the elders committee report at a delegate meeting in Lokoja, arguing that the position of state chairman should not be treated as a mere gift to be bestowed upon an individual without proper consideration of their qualifications and abilities.

They urged the party’s leaders, including former governors Ibrahim Idris and Capt. Idris Wada, to resolve any disagreements regarding potential candidates Hon. Tony Amego and Capt. Joe Agada, rather than supporting an outsider with a questionable background.

The PDP Youth Frontier’s rejection of Anyebe as the consensus chairmanship candidate reflects the ongoing internal challenges faced by the party in Kogi State.

As the election for the state chairman approaches, the group has called for a level playing field, allowing party delegates to choose their next leader without undue influence or interference.
