John Krasinski's fantasy comedy film IF premiered in 2024 to an underwhelming reception. Less than two months after its premiere, the film has already set a streaming release date.

Per Variety, IF will be heading to Paramount+ on July 9. The fantasy film was Krasinski's first adventure to a different genre in a project that he wrote with his daughters in mind. The comedy boasts a star-studded cast, including a The Office reunion, but not even that was able to save the film.

John Krasinski had a lot of success with his horror series A Quiet Place, and decided to create a project his daughters could watch. Taking inspiration from their day-to-day activities and adventures with imaginary friends, Krasinski wrote IF, which stands for imaginary friends. The movie, which starred Cailey Fleming and Ryan Reynolds in the lead roles, premiered on May 17, 2024. The film featured many cameos and guest stars in voice roles, including Emily Blunt, Steve Carell, Matt Damon, Bradley Cooper, George Clooney, and more.

Unfortunately, John Krasinski's IF didn't have the reception they anticipated. The movie received mixed reviews from the critics, and holds a "rotten" score of 49% on Rotten Tomatoes, but 88% from the audience. However, the enthusiasm doesn't look like it translated into many ticket sales, because the film ended its theater run with $184.6 million worldwide (via The Numbers). While those aren't bad numbers for a children's film, IF had a budget of $110 million, which means that it didn't make Paramount Pictures profit, as the Hollywood rule of thumb is the film should receive two times its budget to be considered a financial success.

John Krasinski's Upcoming Film Could Be a Huge Success

While IF didn't manage to convince the critics, John Krasinski has another ace up his directorial sleeve. The actor, who is famous for his role as Jim Halpert in the beloved sitcom The Office, will get back to his successful film series, A Quiet Place with a new installment. The franchise has recently premiered a prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One, with Pig's director Michael Sarnoski at the helm. Day One turned out to be a huge success, earning $178.1 million in its first two weekends, more than double its $67 million budget.

John Krasinski held a producer credit for A Quiet Place: Day One, but he didn't direct it, like he did for the first two installments of the series. However, Krasinski will return to helm another installment, A Quiet Place Part III, which has a set release date of 2025, and has the potential of becoming a huge success, unlike his recent work, IF.

IF will be available on Paramount Plus starting July 9.
