BARNWELL COUNTY, S.C. () – A Barnwell County woman faces murder charges for allegedly killing pregnant 17-year-old Maylashia Hogg.

62-year-old Jacqueline Reid is charged with two counts of murder. Investigators say they found forensic evidence at her home linked her to the crime.

Maylashia’s stepfather Michael Sapp described her as an outgoing and outspoken child who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind.

“Recently she has been only excited about having this baby,” her stepfather, Michael Sapp, said. “That’s what’s been on her mind having this baby.”

She was reported missing on Valentine’s Day, days away from delivering her daughter, Londyn Charity. Her body was discovered Feb. 18 in a ditch near Perry and Main streets in Barnwell.

“I fell out. I was just, I was crying. My mind was in a whirlwind, and I couldn’t get my mind straight,” cousin Nekeshia Crews recalled.

Jacqueline Reid, 62, of Barnwell, was arrested July 1 in connection with her death.

Tensions were high as Reid appeared in court Tuesday.

“I just can’t believe that she actually did this,” Sapp said. “Like I asked her several times like, have you saw Malaysia? And she looked right at me and was like, no. And knowing the whole time that she already had did this to my baby. “

Reid refused to speak with the judge, who ultimately denied her bond.

“I need you to speak where the court can hear you,” the judge told her.

“I don’t wanna talk to you,” Reid said.

“You don’t want to talk to me?,” the judge asked. “Okay.”

Investigators say during a search of her home, forensic evidence was found that linked her to Maylashia’s death.

“I want know why, why she took two kids’ life,” Maylashia’s second cousin Robert Payne said. “I’m talking about coming down to my house and sit in my yard. Call me uncle, uncle Joe, called me cousin Bobby. All that stuff know they turn around and kill my little cousin. I don’t say it don’t make no sense.”

Family members express their raw emotions as they saw Reid in court.

“She’s heartless? I mean, if I took someone’s life and I saw how the family was affected by it, I would have to show some kind of concern. I say I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done it. But she’s heartless, very heartless.” Maylashia’s aunt Judy Hogg said.
