It’s that time of the year again for Apple enthusiasts! Apple has just rolled out the second public betas for iOS 17.6, macOS 14.6, iPadOS 17.6, and a few others.

Apple’s approach to beta testing during the summer is all about running dual tracks. On one side, we have the major upcoming versions like iOS 18 and macOS 15, set to debut in the fall. On the other side, we have updates like iOS 17.6 and macOS 14.6. It's a smart way to smooth out any last-minute wrinkles while gearing up for the next big leap. The last such update happened in Apple with the iOS 17.5, macOS 14.5, and iPadOS 17.5 betas.

The updates come with new user-facing features and enhancements and hints at Apple’s ongoing efforts to refine and expand its ecosystem.

If you're on the public beta train, getting your hands on these new updates is as simple as heading to Settings ⇾ General ⇾ Software Update on your iPhone.

One of the standout features in iOS 17.6 is an upgrade to the TV app called “Catch Up.” Picture this: you join a live sports event halfway through and need to quickly get up to speed. "Catch Up" gives you access to highlights and key moments you’ve missed, making sure you’re in the loop before diving into the live action. This is perfect for those unpredictable moments when you can’t tune in right at the start.

For macOS 14.6, while specifics are still trickling in, we can expect the usual round of performance improvements and bug fixes. Apple is focusing on ensuring that the devices run smoother than ever, even as they get ready for the more significant upgrades on the horizon.

With Apple's "Made by Google" event just around the corner in August, we can look forward more features being unveiled.
