In preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Team Ghana is set to embark on an intensive two-week training camp in Strasbourg, France, starting Sunday, July 7.

This training camp aims to fine-tune the skills of nine athletes across athletics and swimming disciplines before they move to the Games Village in Paris on July 22.

President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah, revealed that the GOC would fully fund the pre-games camping, supporting the government’s efforts to ensure a successful campaign for Team Ghana while alleviating some financial pressures.

“We have allocated €35,000 for the training camp, excluding flight tickets and per diems,” Mr Nunoo Mensah stated. He also mentioned receiving assistance from the French Embassy in Ghana and a pre-games subsidy from the International Olympic Committee, facilitating the team’s preparation and acclimatization.

While the total budget for Ghana’s participation in the Games is under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr Nunoo Mensah expressed confidence in the preparations and readiness of Team Ghana for the upcoming Olympic challenges.

At the previous Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Ghana was represented in athletics, boxing, weightlifting, and judo, achieving notable success with a bronze medal in boxing by young Samuel Takyi. The Paris 2024 Olympics will occur from July 26 to August 11, 2024, with Team Ghana aiming to build on past achievements and make the nation proud again on the global stage.
