In Rivers State, Commissioner for Information Joe Johnson has claimed that the previous Governor, Wike, terminated the local government chairmen who were elected by his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, and appointed temporary leaders for a duration of nine months. He pointed out that this action was in line with the state assembly’s statutes, showing that although not explicitly mentioned in the national constitution, the practice is legally backed by state laws. By highlighting the consistent use of this system across various governments, he emphasized the legality of the temporary leadership structure established by Governor Sim Fubara, as per the state assembly’s statutes. In an interview with Channels TV, he stated, “The state assembly was responsible for passing the law that established the temporary leadership structure, which was utilized by former Governors Peter Odili, Rotimi Amaechi, and even Governor Wike.
