The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a bandit and recovered a firearm in Kissayhip B Methodist community in Bassa LGA.

Parading the suspect, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, said, “The command received a credible intelligence from a good and peace-loving citizen of the state which resulted in the arrest of a suspected bandit and the recovery of firearms on July 11, 2024.’’

He explained that the suspect, with bullet wounds, was seen receiving treatment in the locality.

He said, “Upon receipt of this report, the DPO of Bassa and his team, under the instruction of the CP, mobilised and raced to the scene, identified the house and carried out a raid on the house. During the operation, one Isma’il Isa, a 36-year-old male from Kissayhip B Methodist was arrested and the following exhibits were recovered from his possession: one AK-47 rifle with Breach No. 5509100, loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.”

In another development, the command said it received an intelligence report from Bukier village, Bokkos LGA, that July 11, 2024, at about 1pm, that some herders were returning to their tents with their cattle when hoodlums attacked them and rustled over 100 cows.

The CP said, “Upon receipt of this information, our gallant operatives from Bokkos Division led by the DPO, raced to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel. Due to our superior fire power, one of the hoodlums was neutralised, while others escaped with severe bullet wounds. The cattle were successfully recovered and the corpse was deposited at the Luna Hospital morgue.”
