A woman quickly saved her family dog from a house fire in Colorado.
DENVER (KDVR) A woman reportedly re-entered a burning house on Sunday to save her family’s dog, Moses, according to a release by the Aurora Fire Rescue.
Everyone in the family of four, including the woman and the dog, got out of the house safely.
According to AFR, the occupants of the two-story townhouse near the intersection of East Mansfield Avenue and East Loyola Drive reported the fire at around 2:20 p.m.
The family discovered the fire after returning home and hearing fire alarms in their unit.
AFR said the woman went back into the home to rescue the dog before fire crews arrived on the scene.
Firefighters quickly entered the home to put out the fire, which was on the second floor. Crews searched the home and found no one trapped inside.
The fire also breached the walls of the adjacent townhome. Everyone in both units safely evacuated, according to the release.
The woman was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation but declined to be taken to a hospital. The dog was not hurt.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Despite the outcome, AFR said people should never re-enter a structure that is on fire.
“Fire can spread rapidly and is unpredictable,” AFR said in the release.
People should instead inform the 911 dispatcher if anyone is missing and “under no circumstances” enter the burning building, according to AFR.
