“After the accused fled the scene of the [first] accident he went on and bumped into the back of a taxi standing at a red robot in Homestead, causing the taxi to flip.”

A man (39) was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, dangerous and negligent driving after failing to stop at the (first) accident scene where a boy (16) was allegedly fatally injured by the driver in the white Nissan Navara.


The incident occurred around 14:30 on Sunday (30/6) at the Seleke/Barkly Road four-way intersection in Homelite, Kimberley. A Nissan Navara is said to have crashed into a pedestrian, but the driver drove off without stopping.


After the accused fled the scene of the [first] accident, he bumped into the back of a taxi standing at a red robot in Homestead, causing the taxi to overturn. All 14 occupants were taken to hospital, some with minor injuries, and others with major injuries.

One of the men (24) in the taxi is in critical condition with the possibility that he may not be able to walk again. Most of the people injured are still in hospital for observation while three are declared to be out of danger.
