Foundation empowers Ibadan secondary school girls’ on menstrual health

As part of efforts targeted at helping them to live a healthy life, particularly during their menstrual cycle, Illuminate Her Foundation has empowered students of Yejide Girls’ Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan, with the knowledge needed.

The event was tagged: ‘Spot/Sport With The Girls’.

One of the Oyo State Project Lead for Illuminate Her Foundation, Miss Adesewa Olayiwola, while speaking during the event held on the school premises on Wednesday said: “Our goal is to reach out to girls in underserved communities and provide them with the knowledge and resources they need to manage their menstrual health confidently. 

“Today’s event is a testament to the power of education and support in transforming lives. We are proud to see the positive impact we are making.

“The primary purpose of the “Spot/Sport with the Girls” project is to reach out to young girls in underserved communities, providing them with the tools and knowledge to manage their menstrual health confidently.

“This aligns with the foundation’s vision of fostering informed, empowered, and self-reliant individuals, and its mission to address period poverty and stigmatisation while promoting education and health awareness.

“Illuminate Her Foundation remains dedicated to its mission and looks forward to organising more events that create lasting, positive impacts in the lives of young girls.”

The event featured exercises specifically designed to help girls manage menstrual pain and improve overall well-being. 

Participants also received comprehensive education on menstruation, menstrual hygiene, and understanding their bodies. 

The foundation’s commitment to promoting health and hygiene was further demonstrated by the distribution of hygiene kits and informative handbooks to all the girls.

The enthusiasm and gratitude of the participants were palpable, with the principals of the Senior and Junior schools, Mrs Titilayo Olalekan and Mrs Olayinka Makanjuola as well as the teachers expressing their happiness and support for the initiative. 

Mrs Olalekan, specifically stated that: “We are delighted to have Illuminate Her Foundation here today. The girls have gained invaluable knowledge and resources that will benefit them greatly.”
