Tom Cruise Reunites With Top Gun: Maverick Star for Twisters Premiere
Tom Cruise is supporting both cinema and his good pal Glen Powell with a new image shared on social media. The post reveals a Top Gun: Maverick reunion with Cruise coming out to support Powell's new movie, Twisters.
At the European premiere of Twisters in London, Cruise was in attendance to catch a screening of the Twister sequel. A video posted online by Deadline reveals Cruise signing an autograph for a fan with a big smile on his face. Cruise also took to his own X account to post an image of himself with Powell, sharing how he was about to watch the film. The actor said in the X post, "Fun night with friends, watching a movie!!"
Tom Cruise has never been one to shy away from roles outside of his norm, but his villainous role in a 2004 film is his best performance yet.
Cruise and Powell are planning to reunite again for another Top Gun movie, as a sequel to Maverick is in the early stages of development. With Cruise having such a busy schedule, it remains unclear when production on Top Gun 3 might begin. However, Powell has teased that there may be some exciting news that's soon to come on the future of the franchise.
“There is going to be some fun stuff being announced soon…but it was confidential to me," Powell told Variety about the future of the Top Gun movie series in January. "I talk to [Joseph] Kosinski, [Tom] Cruise, and Jerry [Bruckheimer] all the time. There is stuff happening and it sounds very exciting. I don’t know when I’ll be going back…I’m sure there is a jet waiting for me sometime in the future.”
Tom Cruise approved the use of Mission: Impossible references in a new action-comedy with near-perfect reviews.
Teasing that progress on the sequel might be slower than Powell suggested, Jerry Bruckheimer would later tell Games Radar in May, "We had preliminary stuff. We're not there yet. [There's] ways to go."
Powell's new movie, Twisters, is set in the same world as the original movie, but it follows an all-new cast of characters. Other cast members include Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, Katy O'Brian, and Superman star David Corenswet. Lee Isaac Chung directed the film with a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, though the story was by Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski.
Twisters will be released in international markets on July 17 with its domestic release in theaters following on July 19, 2024.
