The immediate past Minister for Interior, Rauf Aregbesola is unrelenting in growing his influence in the politics of Osun state.

Aregbesola, a former two-term Governor of Osun state, is working hard to regain former status.

He has instructed members of the political group giving him relevance in Osun state, Omoluabi Progressives, to increase awareness campaigns and get more people on board

“Yesterday, we held another stakeholders’ meeting of the leadership of Omoluabi Progressives in Osun headed by Alh. Azeez Issa Adesiji. The leaders were charged on the need to explain to members at the local governments and wards on the vision and what we are doing at Omoluabi.” Aregbesola disclosed in a social media post on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Among other things, Aregbesola and Omoluabi Progressives have declared the intention to produce the next Governor of Osun state.

Aregbesola who is the grand patron, formed the group in the face of an intense supremacy tussle within the mainstream All Progressives Congress (APC) that was earning his followers severe sanctions including expulsion from the party in Osun state.

The former Governor was the most prominent politician in Osun state before he was sidelined and the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) taken from him in the face of a fierce supremacy battle with his successor Gboyega Oyetola.

With Aregbesola without any political office to his name, Oyetola – who is now a Minister -and his backers, including the National Secretary of the APC – Ajibola Basiru mustered a stronger hold on the party in a move that gave them total control.

Aregbesola is seeking a bold return as the face of Osun state politics with Omoluabi Progressives.
