‘You fought for so long’ – Tributes pour in for popular Dublin theatre manager after battling long illness

TRIBUTES are being paid following the death of a popular Dublin theatre manager after battling a long illness. 

Cliona McNamara died on Thursday, June 4, in Our Lady's Hospice, Harold's Cross, after a recent illness. 

Draiocht Blanchardstown took to Facebook, giving their condolences to her family following her death. 

They said: "Cliona is well known to our audiences and artists. A constant presence on show nights, Cliona brought calm and wisdom to all that she did. 

"Over her tenure, she had a particular commitment to our part time front of house team, many of whom would form lifelong friendships with her. 

"Cliona will be missed by all the Draíocht family, current and past. Our thoughts are with her family and friends and all who loved her. May she Rest in Peace."

Her RIP.ie death notice reads: "Peacefully in the wonderful care of the staff of Our Lady's Hospice, Harold's Cross, Dublin, and formerly the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and St. Luke's Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.

"Cliona, predeceased by her dear father Pat McNamara, beloved aunt Caroline Pilkington and brother-in-law Ed Ryan.

"Adored mum of Iseult, dearly loved daughter of Anne (née Pilkington), sister of Dav and Orna and aunt of Callum.

"She will be sadly missed by her daughter, mother, sisters, nephew, brother-in-law Jonathan Woods, aunts including Godmother Mary Kerins, uncle, cousins, other relatives, Iseult's father Gary (Sheehan), the extended McNamara, Pilkington and Sheehan families, her colleagues at Draíocht Theatre, Blanchardstown and last but by no means least, Cliona's wonderful friends who have been such an amazing support to her and her family throughout her illness."

Cliona's devastated friends said in an online notice that she "was a beautiful person" and "was so very talented."

One said: "So sad to hear. Cliona was a beautiful person. Worked with and known her for years. May she rest in peace. Condolences to all her family and close friends."

Another one added: "I was in school with Cliona and have great memories. She loved the arts then and was so very talented. 

"I bumped into her over the years and she was always like a bright star shining. Rest easy Cliona. Be kind to yourselves at the tremendously difficult time."

A third one said: "So sorry to hear this news. I knew Cliona though all her years at Draiocht- a lovely person and for so many people, the face of Draiocht. Sincere condolences to Iseult, and her wider family."

Cliona's funeral mass will be held at St. Anne's Church, Sligo, on Monday, June 8, at 11 a.m., followed by a cremation service on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Glasnevin Crematorium, Dublin.
