The city of Dallas has once again launched its 'Summer of Safety' program, offering a variety of free and low-cost activities to keep young people safe as summer approaches. Mayor Eric Johnson initiated this successful partnership between several city departments, including the mayor's office, Dallas Police Department, Dallas Independent School District, Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Dallas Public Library.

During the recent news conference held at the Mattie Nash-Myrtle Davis Recreation Center, Mayor Johnson highlighted the importance of this program in preventing teen involvement in violent crimes, especially during the summer months. Johnson emphasized the need for proactive measures to protect the Dallas youth and keep them engaged in positive activities.

One of the key components of the 'Summer of Safety' program is the 'Teen All-Access Pass,' which offers free access to museums, waterparks, fitness centers, and cultural centers for city residents aged 13 to 17. Additionally, the Dallas Public Library provides a range of programs, including the SMART Summer reading program that encourages children to read through exciting incentives and the Mayor's Youth Sports Ticket Program that provides free access to various sporting events.

The Dallas Police Department also offers a variety of activities for teens, such as midnight basketball, boxing, and movie nights, to keep them engaged and off the streets. Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde mentioned the diverse activities available in schools, including chess, sports programs, cheer, debate, and robotics.

Crystal Ross, the deputy director of the Park and Recreation Department, highlighted the 53 summer camps, 20 aquatics facilities, and 17 spray grounds available across the city. These programs aim to provide a safe and engaging environment for young people throughout the summer months.

As the program gains traction, families like Ashley Knight's are eager to take advantage of the free and affordable opportunities provided by the city of Dallas. With a wide range of activities and resources available, the 'Summer of Safety' program aims to ensure that Dallas youth have a fulfilling and safe summer experience.
