James Kisamba packed his bags and left home thirteen years ago without saying a word to his destitute family, who looked up to him as their sole provider.
According to a report by the Daily Monitor, when Kisamba left, his wife, Efulansi Nalubega, had to take on the burden of providing for the family despite having a disability.
Before leaving, Kisamba, Efulansi said, was a violent husband to her who often turned to her with kicks and blows each time she asked him to buy some food for the household.
“He would bark at me and question why I was making financial demands to him while I was not working,” the woman narrated.
After her husband left them, Efulansi had to figure out how to provide for the family, and she embarked on farming to make sure they stayed afloat.
“I also knitted sweaters on the side, and I sold them to make some money,” she said.
She received a major financial boost from the Ugandan government, which offered her KSh 35,000 to plant some maize.
She made a profit of KSh 81,000 and invested some of these proceeds in purchasing a motorbike in order to increase her streams of income.
Upon learning that his wife has been making a lot of money through farming and government donations, Kisamba recently returned, hoping to enjoy her sweat after 13 years.
The man admitted he left the family in 2011 because he was unable to provide for the family.
Despite welcoming him with open arms, the woman has since been warned to refrain from sharing her money with the prodigal husband.
