Elizabeth Debicki has been in several high-profile roles in the past few years, some including roles in Netflix's hit political drama The Crown, Christopher Nolan's Tenet, and James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. Of the latter, Debicki had nothing but praise and revealed what surprised her most about the famous superhero trilogy.

Speaking with Collider, Elizabeth Debicki shared how taken aback she was by the complex sets in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. The actress appeared in the second and third installments of the trilogy, and she played Ayesha, the High Priestess of the Sovereign. Ayesha was an imposing leader and hires the Guardians in Vol. 2 to protect valuable batteries, and turns against them as Rocket steals some of them. In Vol. 3, she appears as Will Poulter's Adam Warlock's mother.

Karen Gillan explains how much of a privilege it was to develop Nebula’s arc in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers movies.

"I'm gonna kind of subvert your question and say: a lot of the things that I thought couldn't possibly be real were real," Debicki explained about the misconceptions of a Marvel superhero film. "I think that that's because I made Guardians of the Galaxy with James Gunn. I haven't made any other Marvel films, but, for instance, I couldn't believe how much of the set is built."

I couldn't believe how much of the set is built.

"Once I found out my skin was gold, I thought, ‘Okay, but maybe we'll just CGI it.’ It's so muscular the way that James makes those films. People are really zipping around on harnesses, and the set is built, and everyone really looks like that."

She went on to explain that she was surprised by the minimal use of CGI on the actors. "It really felt like I was watching this motley crew of actors and characters. They've been making it for so long, I mean, I feel a little bit like a tourist on those films, because I would just come in and have this lovely time and then leave." She couldn't help but note that this practice was also very time-consuming, as Dave Bautista, who played Drax the Destroyer, spent hours in makeup. "I know that somebody like Dave Bautista was in makeup for, like, I don't even know, five hours a day. I don't know how they did that. I learned very quickly that it doesn't matter how long your makeup call is, someone has it much worse, so don't complain," she added with a laugh.
