Crime Stoppers in the Lowcountry closing down after 40 years of operation

BEAUFORT, S.C. () – After over 40 years of service, Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry has announced it is dissolving and will no longer be able to provide service to:  Allendale, Bamberg, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry and Jasper counties.

The Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry Council says service will temporarily continue for the counties of Beaufort, Georgetown, and Horry while those communities’ standup independent programs for those respective areas.

Tipsters providing tip information for Allendale, Bamberg, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton, and Jasper Counties will be directed to submit their tip information directly to local law enforcement.

Starting Oct. 1, the online P3 Tips account for Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry will no longer exist.

Crime Stoppers is a nonprofit organization that offers a secure and anonymous process for individuals to provide information about criminal activities to law enforcement.

The first Crime Stoppers program was started on September 8, 1976. Since then, other programs have been established including one in the Lowcountry.

The Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry Council is encouraging community members from the affected areas to start a new Crime Stoppers program to cover their area.
