Do you constantly feel cold even when it is not? According to experts, this sickness can leave you feeling tired and depressed and may be a sign of an invisible condition, which causes hypothyroidism or an underactive thyroid.

Hypothyroidism happens when your thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormones, which makes your metabolism slow down, affecting your entire body. Also known as underactive thyroid disease, hypothyroidism is very common.

Doctors say hypothyroidism can be treated by taking daily hormone medicines but is not always easily spotted.

According to doctors, hypothyroidism slows down your metabolism, leading to a drop in core body temperature and making those with levels of thyroid hormones feel cold all the time or have a low tolerance to the cold.

This feeling of coldness can persist, even when in a warm room or during the summer months.

However, doctors say feeling cold in the hands and feet is not enough to make a hypothyroidism diagnosis, as these sensations may also be symptoms of a wide range of other conditions, including anemia and impaired circulation.

According to experts, feeling cold is not enough to diagnose hypothyroidism alone, as there are other signs and symptoms to watch out for as well. A few include:

Doctors say there can be two causes of the condition – primary and secondary. A primary cause directly impacts the thyroid and causes it to create low levels of thyroid hormones.

However, in secondary cause, the pituitary gland is not able to send thyroid stimulating hormone or TSH to the thyroid to balance out the thyroid hormones.

Primary causes of hypothyroidism are much more common, and many times lead to an autoimmune condition called Hashimoto’s disease – a hereditary condition in which the body’s immune system attacks and damages the thyroid. This prevents the thyroid from making and releasing enough thyroid hormone.

A few other causes of hypothyroidism include:

Doctors say hypothyroidism can become a serious and life-threatening medical condition if you do not get treatment. If not treated, your symptoms can become more severe and:
Can hypothyroidism make me gain weight?

If your hypothyroidism is not treated, you could gain weight. Once you are treating the condition, the weight should start to lower.

In some cases, there can be a connection between untreated hypothyroidism and erectile dysfunction. When your hypothyroidism is caused by an issue with the pituitary gland, you can also have low testosterone levels.

Hypothyroidism cannot be prevented, however, the best way to prevent developing a serious form of the condition is to watch for signs of hypothyroidism. If you experience any of the symptoms of hypothyroidism, the best thing to do is talk to your doctor.>>>CONTINUE FULL READING HERE
