Rio Ferdinand asks Man Utd ace five-word question about ‘really important’ thing Ruben Amorim’s team is doing with players
Rio Ferdinand learned how Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff are trying to improve a current crop of Manchester United players at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim brought his own coaching staff to the Premier League club after he left Sporting CP last November and became Manchester United manager
The 40-year-old United head coach succeeded Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout after the Dutchman was axed by the Red Devils last October.
Amorim has overseen a mixed start to life in England, with the former Sporting CP boss seeing success so far in the FA Cup and the Europa League.
United reached the knockout rounds of the Europa League under Amorim and kicked off their FA Cup title defence with a win over Arsenal last month at the Emirates.
However, the Red Devils have been inconsistent in the Premier League and United have languished in 13th place in the league table in the 2024-25 campaign.
Rio Ferdinand linked up with Manchester United defender Leny Yoro for a sitdown chat and the Red Devils star opened up about his time at Old Trafford so far.
Leny Yoro has previously talked up the influence that Ferdinand had on him and revealed the United legend played a part in his move to England.
The 19-year-old French defender, who attracted interest from Real Madrid, was snapped up by United last summer from Ligue 1 outfit Lille in a deal worth £52.18m.
Yoro missed the opening weeks of the 2024-25 campaign due to a pre-season injury against Arsenal at the SoFi stadium in Los Angeles last summer.
However, the former Lille star has since overcome his foot injury and has played under Ruben Amorim as part of the United manager’s three-man backline.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, the United legend told Yoro how he would prepare for matches when he played under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.
“When I was playing against strikers every week, on the Thursday or Friday before the game, I said to the analyst, ‘Fill the iPad up with the strikers that I’m playing against, and I want to see their best clips and their moments — goals and assists, etc,’” Ferdinand said.
He then asked Yoro “Is that what you’re doing?”
Leny Yoro, who has made 15 appearances for United this season, said that there is a WhatsApp chat that the defenders are part of and will receive different clips.
Outside of the support from Amorim and his coaching staff, the United centre-back revealed that he is working closely with “one person” he has known since his Lille days.
Responding to Ferdinand’s question, Yoro said: “Yeah, yeah, of course. It’s important.
“We have a group on WhatsApp. With all the defenders, they send clips of the strikers, their movements, their runs.
“And outside of that. I have one person who’s doing really a lot of clips on the striker for me to know. I had already someone in Lille, so I keep working with him.
“[I am] especially looking where to run, for example, if the defender has the ball, for a long pass.
“Or for a cross with the first or second ball, everything is really important.”
