Microfinance Bank Staff Docked For Swindling Company N4.9m

A 30-year old staff of GreenVille Microfinance Bank, Emmanuel Ekakati, has been arrested and charged for allegedly swindling the company to the tune of N4.9m in Lagos State.

 P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 29th April, 2024, at the bank’s branch located at Abaranje Road,  Ikotun area of Lagos, where he was employed as staff of the bank.

He was charged for stealing by converting the money in question without the consent of the bank.

Trouble started for him after the bank’s management conducted an internal audit and discovered that the money was missing and he was contacted to explain what happened and how the money got missing.

During the interrogation by the management, he was unable to give satisfactory answers and the matter was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division. He was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the missing money.

After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.

The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will have to be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned till 13th May, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
