AUSTIN, Texas — The Bullock Texas State History Museum had much to celebrate Sunday. The museum celebrated Bob Bullock’s 95th birthday with a free event.

The public was invited to join the festivities that began at 10 a.m. to honor the museum’s namesake.

The Bob Bullock Birthday Bash featured free exhibition admission, family-friendly activities and sweet treats.

Guests there were also able create a party hat to wear throughout the celebration and get a balloon twisted in the shape of a favorite object or character.

“Bob Bullock really advocated for the museum and for children to have a space to learn about Texas history,” said Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum family programs manager Kristin Johnson. “We have a very unique museum where we have changing artifacts, and every time people come, there are new things to explore, and he really wanted people to learn about Texas history.”

Robert "Bob" Douglas Bullock, Sr., a native of Hillsboro, Texas, served as the 38th lieutenant governor of Texas. In a political career that spanned nearly 40 years, Bullock is credited as being the principal architect of modern Texas government.

While serving as lieutenant governor, Bullock began discussing the idea of a state history museum. Those plans were approved by the legislature in 1997. Bullock was the guest of honor at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum shortly before his death in 1999.
