FIFA ranking: Super Eagles falls to 38, Argentina ranks 1st globally… see full list

The Nigeria national football team slipped to 38th globally in the latest FIFA rankings announced on Thursday.

The Super Eagles‘ poor performance in the June World Cup qualifiers led to a significant drop in the global rankings, plummeting eight places to 38th position in the world and 5th in Africa.

Formerly ranked 30th, Nigeria’s decline follows its performance in the two matches after the African Cup of Nations, where they emerged as runners-up after losing 2-1 to the host nation.

In their recent games, the Super Eagles played a 1-1 draw against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and suffered a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic in a match played in Ivory Coast.

Morocco and Senegal maintained their status as the top two African teams, while Egypt and Ivory Coast moved up to third and fourth place, respectively and Nigeria sits fifth in African continent.

Argentina maintains its top spot in the FIFA rankings, now standing at 1860.14 points after gaining 2.14 points. France and Belgium hold on to their respective second and third positions, while Brazil moves up to the 4th position, overtaking England who now sits 5th.

Netherlands and Spain remain seventh and eight respectively but Croatia went up to ninth while Italy went down to 10th to make up the top ten.
