Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, Connecticut is now publishing a new scholarly journal called Mainsheet: A Journal of Multidisciplinary Maritime Studies. Submissions are subject to double blind peer review. Mainsheet is published in print as well as online, where it is open access with no fee to authors. The journal is intended to be multidisciplinary, global in scope, and accessible to a general public of people interested in maritime studies. In addition to research papers, the journal also publishes art, poetry, artifact spotlights, book reviews, and other kinds of content.

The first issue, on Maritime Social History, has recently been published and can be found online.  Future themes will include Maritime Technologies, Livelihoods and Economies and Challenges in Maritime Archaeology.
