The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Prince Neville Uchendu, has said the era of the Igweship tussle in Anambra communities is over.

Prince Uchendu disclosed this to journalists shortly after he presented the newly elected traditional ruler of the Ihite community, Chief Timothy Okwudili Ifurunwa, before the state commissioner for local government, chieftaincy, and community matters, Mr Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, at the government house in Awka, on Thursday.

He said since Governor Soludo assumed leadership, no community in Anambra State, particularly in Orumba South Council Area, has conducted her traditional ruler’s or President General’s elections amidst security threats.

According to him, since Soludo assumed office two years ago, no community across the 21 local government areas has experienced any electoral violence during or after her town leadership elections.

The governor always ensures a conducive environment and prefers option A4 for the sake of transparency.

The TC Chairman thanked the Ihite people for the peaceful conduct of the election and re-echoed the need for other communities in the area that will hold elections for their traditional rulers in the future to emulate the Ihite Kingdom.

Thanking the President General of the Ihite Development Union for helping midwife a hitch-free election for a new traditional ruler, Prince Uchendu urged the people of the community to unite under the Igwe-elect for speedy development of their community, reminding them that Governor Soludo, who has done much for the people of the area, is determined to enthrone peace in the various communities in the state for sustainable development.

On his part, the President General of the community, Surveyor George Madu, who narrated how the election was conducted peacefully with supervision from the Anambra State Ministry of Local Government, Community, and Chieftaincy Matters, said the election of Chief Ifurunwa is a prayer answered, praying God to give the Igwe-elect wisdom to bring solutions to other needs of the community.

Contributing, the former TC Chairman of Orumba South LGA, Chief Cyprian Okereke, Chairman, Anambra Urban Regeneration Council, Arc. Mike Nwankwo, and former President General of the town, Hon. Sunday Nwankwo, say Chief Ifurunwa has shown love to Ihite people through massive employment of indigenes, adding that a new factory the Igwe-elect is establishing in the community will go a long way in addressing unemployment among the youths.

They noted that the community has been without a traditional ruler for the past five years.

They described the election as peaceful.

Other members of the Ihite community, including the Chairman of all Chairmen of villages, Mr Lazarus Eze; the Woman Leader, Mrs Ndidiamaka Ugboaja; and the Youth President, Mr Ifeanyi Ezuru, said the Igwe-elect is the people’s choice, saying that members of the community are blessed to have Chief Ifurunwa as the man to ascend the traditional stool.

Thanking the Ihite people for finding him worthy of the exalted position, the Igwe-elect, Chief Ifurunwa, promised to do his best for the betterment of his community.

He also appealed to some of the aggrieved elders in the community who are challenging the outcome of the election to shield their anger and join hands with the new leadership in order to benefit from Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a smart, livable, and prosperous state in Nigeria.

Upon receiving the traditional ruler and his entourage, the state commissioner for local government, chieftaincy, and community matters, Hon. Nwabunwanne, urged the elected monarch to run an all-inclusive administration.
