Key Takeaways

  • Raycon's Everyday Headphones Pro offer 60 hours battery life, ANC, awareness mode, and six microphones.
  • Comfortable for all-day use, the headphones are good at blocking steady background noise, but voices are often still audible.
  • Raycon offers an understated design and good sound quality, but no customization options.
  • Raycon products promise great quality at a lower cost, but its "pro" line of products don't compete at a lower cost. They compete at the same price as others in a sea of good audio gear.

The Everyday Earbuds Pro were great, and I would love them if they were given to me as a gift (less so if I had to pay for them myself). Is the story the same with the Raycon Everday Headphones Pro? Well, at $149.99, the price is exactly the same as the buds, but this time to story plays out a bit differently.

Comfort and Battery Life for Everyday Use

Are these the best sounding headphones you can buy? That's always going to be difficult to answer. A different question is, do these headphones live up to their name? As in, are these headphones that you can wear every day, and are they good for professional work?

I'm a professional who works remotely, but I'm not at home alone. That means I can easily log many hours of listening to headphones a day. When testing out a new candidate, the first and most important thing is whether I can actually stand wearing them for hours at a time. I previously ordered a pair of JBL headphones that I caught on sale and had to immediately return them because the band dug into the top of my head. No, I do not have a particularly large head.

I did not have this problem with Raycon's headphones. I found them comfortable the first time I put them on. I found them comfortable hours later. I found them comfortable the next day. So can I wear them every day? Yes, happily.

Does the battery life sustain everyday use? Raycon promises 60 hours of battery life, with 44 hours if ANC is enabled. This is much less than you can get from headphones that cost half the price, such as the SoundPEATS Space that delivers upwards of 100 hours. Still, do the math. Even with ANC on, 44 hours is enough to go through several work days before needing a charge. That has been my experience.

In weeks of use, I have charged the headphones so infrequently that I can't think of much to say about the experience. When the time comes to top-up, you do so using a USB-C port at the bottom of the left ear cup. A light comes on, and when you pick the headphones back up later, you have enough charge to get you through much of the rest of your work week.

Block Out Most (But Not All) Background Noise

So these phones are comfortable enough to wear all day, and battery life isn't an issue. What is it like to wear these in a work setting?

That depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Active Noise Cancelation easily blocks out steady sounds, like an air condition or fan. If you're in an environment with mechanical background noise, you won't hear much of anything when you have audio playing---assuming it's a place safe to wear headphones in, that is.

Voices are less straightforward. Sometimes you want to hear what people are saying, and sometimes you don't. The Raycon Headphones Pro comes with an additional "awareness" mode to help with that.

With awareness mode on, you can hear background noises while listening to your music. It blocks out various sounds while allowing voices to pass through. If you're in an office and risk losing your job if you don't hear people when they call your name, you're going to want some degree of awareness.

But say you don't have to worry about someone calling for your attention. Instead, you're next to a colleague holding a conversation while you're trying to hunker down. In that case, you can turn awareness mode off and block out most of what's said. That's easy to do via the buttons along the right ear cup, where you also adjust the volume.

In either case, you're likely to hear someone if they shout your name, so as a parent working from home, this works pretty well for me. The Raycon Everyday Headphones Pro do a good job of blocking out general background noise. Yet, when a family member is trying to get my attention, chances are I will hear them. If an argument has broken out between my kids and has escalated to the point where I need to intervene, I can hear that, too.

I don't hear most anything else unless it's a loud, sharp sound like a door slamming. Again, these are the sounds I want to hear. That means for me, the headphones are great. You could even call them ideal. But if you want absolute silence, these won't deliver that, regardless of whether awareness mode is on or off.

    A Deliberately Downplayed Design

The regular Everyday Earphones have giant Raycon logos on each ear cup. The pro model isn't intended to be as eye-catching. I'm reviewing the blue pair, which has a bit of a gray tint to it. It's not a color I would have picked up personally, but I do think I would be very happy with these headphones in either black or white, so I won't ding Raycon for the looks.

I wasn't the first one to get my hands on my review unit, and it arrived with a few scratches. That left me feeling unsure how well it would hold up over time.

That said, I wore these headphones around the yard while I did garden work, and I wore them while cutting the grass (yes, I could still hear the lawn mower). They did not pick up any additional scratches during that time. If you travel with them in the included case, they'll probably hold up just fine.

Good Sound, Take It or Leave It

Like the Everyday Earbuds Pro, the headphones don't give you options for customizing the sound. There is no mobile app or PC software for making your own adjustments.

How is that sound? To my ears, it's great. I like to listen to chillhop (literally Chillhop) while I work. The sounds are clear. The bass isn't distracting. No complaints. When I switched to Coheed & Cambria, the highs are high, the lows are low, and I feel the journey that Claudio Sanchez is taking me on.

I tend to leave headphones and earbuds on their default settings. I don't want to feel my bass vibrate. Voices seem clear enough without me having to switch to a specialized mode. Raycon products serve me well, since I'm not left with the feeling that there are extra features I'm missing out on. What you see is what you get. But if you want more than that, you're going to need to buy something else.

Voice calls were okay. I could hear callers well enough. They could hear me. I would primarily describe the experience as merely functional. This is one area where I preferred using the Raycon Everyday Earbuds Pro over the headphones, which is not the case for most other aspects of the experience.

Should You Buy the Raycon Everyday Headphones Pro?

At $149.99, the Raycon Everyday Headphones Pro aren't cheap, but they aren't all that expensive either. A great pair of noise-canceling headphones will easily set you back over $300. These are a solid middle-ground option that will likely satisfy someone looking for something good that "just works" without needing to spend as much money as you might on a phone.
