Police intensify search for Bello Sikiru over alleged LGBTQ offense
The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to apprehend Bello Sikiru, who was declared wanted in 2022 for allegedly engaging in homosexual acts. This declaration followed classified information received from an anonymous source, reportedly influenced by prominent members of the community who had been monitoring Sikiru for years.
According to a police spokesperson, the alleged offense violates Nigeria’s anti-gay law, enacted in January 2014, which imposes a 14-year prison sentence for individuals convicted of same-sex relationships.
The warrant for Sikiru’s arrest was issued by a Magistrate Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, after he reportedly fled during an incident where he and his partner were caught in the act. His partner was arrested, prosecuted, and sentenced under the law.
Despite multiple invitations and efforts to locate him, Sikiru remains at large. Our source affirmed the last confirmed sighting of him was at his home address at number 42, Ajao Street, Nepa bus stop Olorunsogo, Ibadan, Oyo State of Nigeria.
The Nigeria Police Force has renewed its appeal to the public, urging anyone with information about Bello Sikiru’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station for necessary action.
