(WTAQ-WLUK) — The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office says a man is in a Wisconsin hospital with critical injuries after a car crash in Outagamie County in the town of Maine.

Saturday morning, deputies responded to a one-car crash on Taubel Road, west of County Highway I in the town of Maine, according to a Saturday press release.

The release says deputies arrived and found a sedan left the road and hit a tree. The male driver, from Illinois, was the only person in the car and had to be extricated from the sedan by the Nichols Fire Department.

“The male was airlifted from the scene by Eagle III to a local hospital with critical injuries. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash,” the release continues.

Taubel Road was closed for about four hours after the crash but has since reopened.

An investigation is still underway.
