RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - A pair of suspected harmful algal blooms are being reported in Virginia Lake and the Lahontan Reservoir.
The City of Reno is asking people to avoid the water in those areas.
The toxic bloom can cause serious health issues for humans and animals.
Health officials say with the warmer temperatures, we will likely see more toxic algae in lakes and other bodies of water.
You are asked to stay away from water that looks discolored or smells bad.
People who come into contact with the algae could experience rashes, hives or blisters. Those who ingest it could experience abdominal pains, headaches and vomiting.
