A 44-year-old man facing murder charges in an Irving stabbing last week was seen hitting the victim prior to her death and later confessed the killing to police, an arrest-warrant affidavit says.

Yunier Aldazabal was arrested July 1 after Sucel Cuba Gomez, 42, was found stabbed to death in a parking lot early the same morning in the 3100 block of West Walnut Hill Lane. According to the affidavit, first responders declared Gomez dead.

Police spoke with a co-worker of Gomez, who told police they saw Aldazabal hitting Gomez, the affidavit said. The witness went to get another person to try and help Gomez, then saw Aldazabal driving away in a red minivan.

Aldazabal was found a few hours later in the minivan and arrested. He had wounds to his hand and wrist, and told police the injuries occurred when he was attacking Gomez, the affidavit said. Aldazabal also provided a “full confession with motive” to police, though the document does not say what the motive was.

Aldazabal and Gomez were in a “dating relationship,” Irving police said at the time of the arrest.

Aldazabal remained in the Dallas County jail Tuesday on $1 million bond. He faces a murder charge and has an immigration hold, online records showed.

It was not clear if Aldazabal had an attorney.
