Sherlock Holmes is one of the most profitable and adapted works, based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous character. Guy Ritchie, who helmed Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes films, is expanding the universe with a series heading to Prime Video, and has just added a new cast member.

Per Deadline, Guy Ritchie's upcoming Sherlock Holmes series, titled Young Sherlock, has just tapped 3 Body Problem actress Zine Tseng as a lead for the series. The new series is based on Andy Lane's novels, and Guy Ritchie will direct and executive produce. The upcoming prequel has already found its new Holmes in Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who previously worked with Ritchie on his latest film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

The cast for CBS' upcoming Sherlock Holmes series, Watson, continues to grow, adding stars from Star Trek: Discovery and So Help Me Todd.

Young Sherlock will follow the famous detective at age 19, as he gets caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University in what would become his first-ever case. Tseng is set to play the lead role against Fiennes Tiffin, and she will portray Princess Gulun Shou’an — Chinese Princess, Oxford University Scholar and skilled martial artist.

Fiennes Tiffin and Tseng aren't the only announced cast members. The series, which was officially announced in late May 2024, has also added the titular character's parents and cast Fiennes Tiffin's real-life uncle, Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid's Tale) as his father, Silas, and Natascha McElhone (Halo, Californication) as his mother, Cordelia Holmes.

Will Guy Ritchie Return to Direct Sherlock Holmes 3?

Before he announced his upcoming prequel project, the audience had been waiting to hear more about the announced Sherlock Holmes 3. Richie helmed the 2009 film and its 2011 sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, but, despite the interest in the franchise, a third film never materialized. A third installment was officially confirmed, but little details were revealed about the project.

The latest update about Sherlock Holmes 3 is exciting, as producer Susan Downey confirmed the film is happening. "I mean, look, no, there's no update, other than it's still very much alive in our hearts," Downey said. "Every day we talk about, "What is the best next version of that?" Because anytime I see Robert and Jude [Law] together, which fortunately, I do get to see a few times a year, we hang out, and I'm just like, 'Can I get these guys back on screen together?', it's magic. There needs to be a really strong reason, it needs to be a great story, and we do have some things in the works."

So far, it's unclear whether Ritchie will return to helm the third installment, as he is currently caught with the prequel, which features a different cast.
