Guwahati: Climate adversities like floods and landslides have routinely disrupted the tourism sector in Sikkim as the state attracts many tourists both nationally and globally.

The Army said heavy torrential rains were witnessed across Sikkim on June 16. 2023. As a result, approximately 3500 tourists were stranded due to the landslides and washing away of a bridge near Chungthang in North Sikkim.

According to the 2023 ISRO Landslide Atlas, Sikkim was hit by 1569 landslides from the 2000-2017 period.
