Human Rights Advocate, Texas Kadri Moro has called on the government to build a special prison for LGBTQ offenders to prevent inmates from practising homosexuality in prisons while serving their terms.
He holds the view that this should precede the passage of the bill into law in order not to turn the country’s prisons into breeding grounds for homosexuality or LGBTQ+ activities which some groups claim they are seeking to avert.
“If you don’t build special prisons for LGBTQ offenders don’t pass the bill”. He cautioned.
He disclosed that inmates of the prison homes would be at risk of being initiated into the activities of LGBTQ+ and inadvertently, this would fester rapidly.
Kadri Moro who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Arise for Justice, a non-profit organization established in Ghana, dedicated to securing and upholding the human rights of all individuals in Ghana pleaded with Members of Parliaments(MPs) to take a second look at the bill and come out with more corrective and pragmatic measures than seeking to imprison offenders.
The activist this week hit the principal streets of Cape Coast in a one-man demonstration against the inclusion of a jail term in the proper human sexual rights and other social injustices in the country.
“Needles to admit the fact that Ghana our country is a pluralistic polity, blessed with rich cultural values with a blend of unique traditional and religious beliefs and tenets, which is the envy of many societies across the globe. We believe the quest to preserve this enviable rich culture is the reason why our Legislative and Executive arms of government are at a crossroads after the introduction of the so-called Proper Human Sexual and Ghanaian Family Values Bill”. He lamented.
Kadri Moro called on the government to intervene and save persons perceived to be homosexuals being assaulted stating that “it is unacceptable for us to use violence to express our dissent for diversity”.
To this end, he appealed for fairness and justice for homosexuals and pleaded with Reverend Ministers and Pastors and other charlatans who accuse innocent and vulnerable old people of witches to be mindful of their actions.
