IIT Roorkee scholarships for UG, PG students

The IIT Roorkee offers bachelor's degree courses in 10 disciplines of engineering and architecture and a master's degree in 55 disciplines of engineering, applied science, architecture and planning.

IIT Roorkee scholarships: The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT R) provides scholarships to worthy and deserving students every year. Some scholarships come in the form of college fee concessions, others come as direct benefit transfers to the students’ bank accounts. Scholarships provided by IIT Roorkee are merit cum means, James Thomason, INSPIRE SHE, Dr S.K. Goel and Kusum Goel Scholarship to disadvantaged students pursuing Engineering education and Sharman Foundation.

The IIT Roorkee offers bachelor’s degree courses in 10 engineering and architecture disciplines and a master’s degree in 55 disciplines of engineering, applied science, architecture and planning.

List of scholarship and eligibility

1) Merit Cum Means scholarship: Under the Merit cum Means (MCM), a UG student gets a minimum of Rs 1,000 per month for 10 months per academic year along with a refund of the remaining tuition fee. An M.Sc. student gets a minimum of Rs 1000 per month for 10 months per academic year. It is available only for the normal duration of the programme. For dual degree programmes, it is available only up to the 4th year. Further, it is awarded up to 25 per cent of the actual strength of the class.

To avail of MCM, a student is expected to fulfil the following conditions:

– Applicant belongs to the General or General (EWS) or OBC category.
– The applicant is a student of BTech, BArch, integrated dual degree (IDD), integrated master of technology (IMT), integrated master of science (IMS), and BS-MS programmes admitted through JEE Advanced or MSc. programmes admitted through JAM.
– The gross income of parents (father and mother or guardian) during the current assessment year is not more than Rs 5 lakh.
– Cumulative grade point average (CGPA) and yearly grade point average (YGPA) is 7.00 or above (not applicable for fresh students).
– All registered courses have been cleared (not applicable for fresh students).
–  The student has not been penalized for unfair means/ indiscipline.

2) James Thomason scholarship:

To avail JT, a student is expected to fulfil the following conditions:

– Applicant is a student of B.Tech., B.Arch., Integrated Dual Degree (IDD), Integrated Master of Technology (IMT), Integrated Master of Science (IMS), and BS-MS programmes admitted through JEE (Advanced)
– Applicant has All India Rank (AIR) in recent JEE (Advanced) up to 250.

3) Inspire She scholarship: Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) under the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) programme, sponsored and managed by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), is offered to pursue undergraduate (UG) studies and continue up to postgraduate (PG) studies, based on Class 12th standard examination results (top 1%) of respective Boards or within eligible rank in chosen few competitive examinations such as JEE (main), JEE (Advanced), NEET (AIPMT), KVPY and securing admission in science stream (in any of science courses or their combination out of the 18 identified subjects) in any recognized College or University or Academic Institution in the country.

To renew INSPIRE-SHE, a student is expected to fulfil the following conditions:

– The applicant is a student of Integrated M.Sc. programmes (II to V year) from the Department of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics
– The Gross Income of parents (Father and Mother or Guardian) during the current assessment year is not more than Rs 5 lakhs.
– The applicant has availed of the INSPIRE SHE in the previous year(s).

To renew INSPIRE-SHE, a student is expected to fulfil the following conditions:

– first-year students of BS-MS and M.Sc./Int.M.Sc. programmes from the Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics Departments
– Inspire (SHE) having All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced)-2021/Joint Admission test for Masters (JAM)-2022 up to 10000.

4) Dr. S.K. Goel and Mrs. Kusum Goel Scholarship: This is to support four (04) financially constrained undergraduate students entering the Institute. The amount is Rs 2 lakh each per year. Starting from the year 2022, one new eligible student will be selected for this scholarship every year. From year 2025 onwards, there will be four awardees of this scholarship. The selected candidates will continue to get this scholarship for the normal duration of their programme (four years), provided they maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.5 at the end of each academic year.

Eligibility:
All General and OBC category students of B.Tech., I year having their annual family income between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh.

5) Scholarship to disadvantaged students pursuing Engineering education: This scholarship is to support two disadvantaged undergraduate students. The scholarship amount is USD 1000 each per year. The selected candidates will continue to get this scholarship for the normal duration of their programme (four years), provided they maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.0 at the end of each academic year. At least one scholarship will be given to the female student if she meets the criteria.

Eligibility:
All General and OBC category students of B.Tech., I year taking a 2/3 Tuition Fee Waiver, but not availing of any other similar scholarship.

There are also some foundation scholarships instituted in the institute including the Sharman Foundation Scholarship.
