Chelsea’s £38m-rated player is likely to be the subject of interest from an Italian top-flight club this summer.

While a lot of the focus at Stamford Bridge has been around the incomings in the transfer window so far, the Blues have also been busy selling individuals.

It’s already been confirmed that youngsters Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall and Omari Hutchinson have all been sold by Chelsea this summer.

Now, there’s reports that Enzo Maresca’s side could sell a more high-profile player in the upcoming weeks.

Napoli expected to make approach for Romelu Lukaku

Journalist Ben Jacobs has explained that Serie A side Napoli are set to make a move for Belgian striker Lukaku, but Chelsea will demand a £38m transfer fee.

Napoli, who appointed Antonio Conte as their new manager this summer, could turn to the Blues forward if they sell Victor Osimhen.

Jacobs told the London Is Blue podcast: “Romelu Lukaku is likely to leave. His preference is to stay in Italy. Roma can’t afford the deal…

“Napoli is the most interesting one because we might see a domino effect. If as expected Victor Osimhen goes anywhere, they bring in money, and they’ll need a replacement.

“Romelu Lukaku is liked by both Antonio Conte and Giovanni Manna, with the latter being the new sporting director there. He was one of the names pushing for Lukaku when there were links with Juventus 12 months ago.

“So, Napoli are likely to approach Chelsea formally for Lukaku, but they don’t see the £38m Chelsea want as value.

“The best way of Chelsea getting their money is Saudi Arabia. We wait and see whether Romelu Lukaku has changed his mind [about going there].”

Let’s make a deal happen

Both Chelsea and Lukaku will surely hope they part ways permanently this summer.

His return to Stamford Bridge didn’t turn out the way everyone hoped, which is why he spent the last couple of years out on loan.

It’s no surprise to hear that he wants to return to Italy, where he’s proven he’s still a quality goalscorer.

Unfortunately, Lukaku goes down as one of Chelsea’s biggest flops, largely down to his £97.5m transfer cost (Sky Sports).
