£50m Chelsea star has returned to training early, he was spotted alongside Tosin Adarabioyo at Cobham

A couple of Chelsea players are doing everything they can to make sure that they are ready for pre-season under Enzo Maresca.

That includes new signing Tosin Adarabioyo, who joined Chelsea from Fulham on a free transfer last month.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea’s non-international players are set to return to training on Thursday.

But it looks like Adarabioyo and one of his teammates have already got down to work at Cobham.

The Blues’ first game of the season is against Premier League champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea star already at Cobham

Having just joined the club, Adarabioyo could be trying to make a good impression.

Ben Chilwell, on the other hand, has been at Chelsea for a while now.

But after a season plagued by injuries, his motives for returning to training early may be a bit different.

A report from The Sun says Chilwell returned to Cobham on Tuesday despite players not having to report for duty until Thursday and shared images of both the left-back and Adarabioyo on the grass.

Because of his injury nightmare last term, you suspect that Chilwell is doing everything in his power to get back to top condition again.

Why Ben Chilwell needs to impress Enzo Maresca from the off

Marc Cucurella finished last season as Chelsea’s first-choice left-back and has really impressed at Euro 2024.

According to WhoScored, the Spaniard is currently making 3.3 tackles per game at the tournament, which is the highest average in his squad.

Ultimately, as things stand, you would expect Cucurella to go into the new campaign as the No.1 left-back.

That will probably only change if Chilwell has a stormer of a pre-season under Maresca.

By getting down to Cobham early, he is doing the right thing. The England international, who Chelsea signed from Leicester City for £50m back in 2020, now just needs to stay fit and impress in his side’s friendlies this summer. Do that, and maybe he can oust Cucurella out of the team.
