Beanie Sigel Says JAY-Z Ghostwrote Verses, ‘Cheated’ For Memphis Bleek
JAY-Z and Beanie Sigel have delivered countless classic records together, some of which also featured Memphis Bleek. The Philadelphia rapper recently accused Hov of penning verses for Bleek and giving him preferential treatment when they all collaborated.
Beans recently appeared on The Art Of Dialogue and made his controversial claims. “Of course, Jay helped Bleek out on a lot of sh*t. You can hear it,” the 50-year-old rapper said, citing their similar rhyme schemes. “He had to cheat for Bleek. Especially if us three was on a record together. If I ain’t right there with Jay, I’m not too far behind him. Bleek wouldn’t have stood a chance.”
The “Feel It In The Air” rapper claimed that their 2000 compilation album, The Dynasty: Roc La Familia, was the most glaring example of Hov ghostwriting for his protege. “Let’s just say it was five records,” he began. “Me and Jay and Bleek was supposed to be on ’em. And he wasn’t on none of them. Like for weeks.” Sigel claimed that out of nowhere, Bleek popped up with four of the tracks. “I wasn’t there. I know he had a little assistance. He got the alley oop.” Check out the interview below.
This isn’t the first time JAY-Z has been accused of helping Memphis Bleek with verses; Dame Dash made a similar claim in a 2024 interview. “Jay was writing a lot of his rhymes, so if Jay retired, that meant Bleek’s business would’ve ended too,” Dash told The Art Of Dialogue. Bleek responded on X, claiming the mogul was saying anything to get attention, an accusation many people have sent his way.
JAY-Z and Beanie Sigel worked together on tracks like “Some How Some Way,” Freeway’s classic “What We Do,” “It’s On,” “Guess Who’s Back,” “Ignorant Sh*t,” “This Can’t Be Life,” and more. Bleek joined them on “4 Da Fam,” “Change Up,” “Murda Murda,” and “Crew Love,” among others.
In August 2023, Memphis Bleek revealed that he was still trying to get JAY-Z to do a collaborative album with him, but it was a losing effort thus far. “Hov too far gone, man!” he told TMZ Hip Hop. “I was supposed to try this when he had $100 million, not a billion. When you got a billion, it’s hard to get you in the booth. Only his wife can do it.” He admitted that he had been sending the Brooklyn rapper songs to jump on, but was getting shot down, however he had no plans to stop trying.
