The Boys aficionados are buzzing with theories that a seemingly insignificant character might be the key to The Seven's downfall. After an emotional rollercoaster in season 4, episode 5 on Amazon Prime, fans were left reaching for the tissues as Hughie Campbell's (Jack Quaid) father, Hugh Sr (Simon Pegg), shared a heart-wrenching goodbye.

But it wasn't all tears; there were chuckles aplenty as the episode featured killer flying sheep attacking the crew. In a frantic bid to find a Supe-killing virus, the boys free ex-Vought head honcho Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) to aid their hunt for Victoria Neuman's (Claudia Doumit) clandestine lab.

Chaos erupts when they visit a farm testing ground and uncover that Compound V has contaminated the water supply, creating a horde of ferocious, super-powered chickens and sheep. What follows is a bloody and comical chase across the countryside.

While the plotline was critical for showing the virus's efficacy, some eagle-eyed viewers suggest it hints at a member of The Seven's imminent demise.

This season kicked off with a revelation about The Deep (Chace Crawford), who's secretly keeping his octopus love interest in a concealed tank, despite telling The Seven he's "dealt with it".

The mysterious octopus Ambrosius, voiced by the iconic Tilda Swinton, sporadically appears on the show to vent about The Deep's emotional neglect and the cramped conditions of its tank.

At the same time, The Deep is deceitfully engaging in a sexual affair with the new member of The Seven, Sister Sage, played by Susan Heyward, behind his cephalopod partner's back.

Speculation is rife among fans about what chaos could ensue if Ambrosius discovers The Deep's infidelity. Some predict it might spell doom for both characters.

One Reddit user shared their prediction, writing: "The octopus is going to cause The Deep's downfall or death."

They elaborated: "It's classic Chekov's gun. I feel like she wants to escape the container she's in to expose or kill The Deep."

They added: "In her eyes it's unfair how he gets to live an amazing life while she's forced to live in a tiny box. Maybe I'm wrong but I definitely think there's a reason she keeps popping up." (sic)

Another viewer suggested that Ambrosius might direct her wrath towards Sister Sage, saying: "I have been thinking. I wonder if the octopus will end up being the one to kill Sage when she learns of the affair?"

They also pondered: "I was thinking this is maybe why they keep playing up her not having 'super' power in terms of durability?" (sic)

Other viewers have noted that given the effects of V on animals as seen in episode 5, Ambrosius might just acquire some formidable superpowers.

"Imagine if the octopus ends up getting V in its system. We saw what V does to animals," one viewer speculated.

Another chimed in with a mix of excitement and dread: "Imagine a V'd up octopus going on a rampage. That would be cool!" (sic)

"Octopus will kill Sage 100%," declared another fan, convinced of the cephalopod's lethal potential. "And it will be so ridiculous that Sage would never expect it. Her plans will most likely not include; 'beware of a jealous octopus'." (sic)

Echoing the sentiment, another fan said: "It would be so amazing to see her get outsmarted by an octopus."

As for whether the octopus will spell trouble for The Deep in future episodes, that remains to be seen.

The Boys Season 4, episode 6 entitled Dirty Business will air Thursday, July 4, 2024 on Amazon Prime Video.
