He continued: 'Mass starts at 9 o'clock, you are constantly late for Mass. You are just pure rude and ignorant.'

As she continued filming, the clergyman went on to say: 'Who are you going to show that to now? Who are you going to show that to? You clown.'

He has since said he 'understands the upset caused' after launching a vicious attack on the churchgoer outside.

Furious worshippers have demanded he no longer holds Mass at the parish - with locals in the own outside Glasgow claiming there have been numerous incident with Father Grant over the years.

One said: 'I wasn't surprised at the video at all, he's the one who's ignorant and evil. This is the first time he's verbally attacked someone - there was an incident a few years ago when he shouted abuse at a wedding photographer.

'He's very old school and should be asked to leave.'

Another added: 'I've stopped going to Carfin Grotto, he's a horrible man. At least the woman is actually attending Mass, whether she's constantly late or not, at least she's still showing up. He's well known for his angry outbursts.

The worshipper added: 'It's time he was reminded of his conduct because his behaviour will only drive people away, which is a real shame because the number of practicing Catholics are already declining - and behaviour like this certainly doesn't help.'

Father Grant been reported to the Bishop of Motherwell, who says the issue has been addressed, following the incident on April 28.

However, he has continued to hold services at the venue, including Mass this morning.

MailOnline knocked the chapel house this afternoon and was told that Grant would not be commenting on the issue, with a gentlemen adding: 'Father Grant won't speak to you because he doesn't want to cause anymore upset to anyone.'

A source said: 'Father Grant has been spoken to by the Bishop and has made it clear that he understands the upset he has caused following the video being made public.'
