Germany’s out of the EUROs...now what?

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola could be paving the way for his club to bring in Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich:

Pep Guardiola’s hopes of a reunion with Bayern Munich and Germany international Joshua Kimmich may have been boosted following a new report this week. Despite entering into the third week of the active summer transfer window for English clubs, Manchester City are still yet to make any concrete progress on new midfield recruits for Pep Guardiola’s forthcoming season.

Concerns over the longevity of Kevin De Bruyne amid long-standing admiration from Saudi Arabia and the United States, as well as ongoing desires from Bernardo Silva to exit the club, has meant City are well underway with contingency plans. According to a new report from The Sun, the chance to link up with former manager Pep Guardiola over at Manchester City is currently ‘swaying’ Joshua Kimmich towards an Etihad Stadium transfer this summer.

Positionally, the report highlights that the 29-year-old wants to play more in midfield, rather than right-back. As such, given City’s hunt for a Rodrigo back-up or support-act, a move to Manchester City appears to make plenty of sense for all parties.

Elsewhere and Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to have been in contact with Bayern Munich officials over Joshua Kimmich, but the versatile defender and midfielder is claimed to favour a move to the Premier League.

Gunners reject Sancho (TEAMtalk via 90Min.com)

Arsenal FC has reportedly rejected a chance to sign Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho:

Arsenal have rejected the chance to sign winger Jadon Sancho from Man Utd due to his high wages.

Germany and Spain hooked for a heavyweight battle in the EURO 2024 quarterfinals.

It was the rare game that truly lived up to the anticipation, intensity, and energy that you would expect to see — and Spain outlasted Germany for a devastating 2-1 loss for the Germans. The game featured questions lineup selections, incredible amounts of energy and intensity, and tangible tension that was present throughout.

In short, it was not just a match, but an experience. Here is a look at what we have on tap to break it all down on the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show:

  • A look at Julian Nagelsmann’s starting XI for Germany and why it was considered to be so controversial.
  • Nagelsmann’s penchant for tinkering is still his biggest weakness.
  • A rundown of the scoring and substitutions.
  • Joshua Kimmich is a clutch player in every sense.
  • What a crushing way to lose.
  • Bottom line, Germany didn’t finish its chances.
  • What did we learn from the this Germany run?
  • Where does Germany go from here?

By all account, Matthijs de Ligt will leave Bayern Munich for Manchester United, but that does not mean that Liverpool FC and Paris Saint-Germain did not try to jump in and swipe the Dutchman from the Red Devils:

Liverpool attempted to beat Manchester United to 24-year-old Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

According to a report from reputed German journalist Christian Falk, Liverpool and PSG have now failed with an approach to sign Matthijs de Ligt. The 24-year-old is on the radar of Manchester United as well, and the development will come as a major boost for the Red Devils.

The Dutchman has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga club this summer, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. The player has established himself as one of the best defenders in German football, and he has the quality to thrive in the Premier League as well. It is no surprise that PSG and Liverpool were keen on signing him.

Liverpool need to bring in a quality replacement for Joel Matip, who has left the club as a free agent this summer. As far as PSG are concerned, they need more quality and depth in the side, and signing a central defender appears to be a priority for them. They have been linked with Leny Yoro as well.

Liverpool could be ready to exercise the release clause for Spain star Nico Williams:

Liverpool are ready to trigger the release clause of Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, who is also wanted by both Chelsea and Barcelona.

Germany is in the EURO 2024 quarterfinals. Bayern Munich seems like it might torch some key players on its roster, and we are sitting here wondering why it just can’t all come together on both fronts to make for a smooth and seamless summer!

That is never the way, but it is also why we are here doing this podcast, so let’s get cracking with a look at what is on tap for this episode of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:

  • Early thoughts on Germany vs. Spain at EURO 2024.
  • Matthijs de Ligt looks like he is headed to Manchester United.
  • Bayern Munich has agreed on personal terms with Xavi Simons, but that does not mean a deal is imminent.
  • Arijon Ibrahimović re-upped with Bayern Munich and will be on the first team, but with what role?
  • Bayern Munich could be asking Joshua Kimmich to take a 15% pay decrease. Would he do it? Does he even fit into Vincent Kompany’s plans?
  • A shout to an upstart Bayern Munich fan club in Louisville, Kentucky (@MiaSanLou on X).

Is Bayern Munich keeping one on the future when it comes to goalkeeper? With Manuel Neuer entering what could be his final season in Germany, the club does have players like Sven Ulreich, Alexander Nübel, and Daniel Peretz among the options to take over for Neuer. But Bayern Munich could be keeping an eye on Porto’s Diogo Costa:

The European Championships have allowed another talent to stand out in Portugal keeper Diogo Costa, who saved every single Slovenia penalty in their last 16 shootout and made himself a hero for his country.

The FC Porto ace has been ever-present at club level as well, leading to some of the continent’s biggest sides taking an interest. Chelsea keeping a very close eye on Costa as they target another goalkeeper, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid doing the same.

That is according to Jornal de Notícias, via Sport Witness, who also claim the 24-year-old will cost £64 million this summer, the full value of his release clause, following a brilliant Euro 2024 campaign.

Barca wants Onana, too (SPORT via 90Min.com)

FC Barcelona is also on the mix for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana:

Barcelona sporting director Deco is instead keen to strike a deal to sign Everton’s Amadou Onana.

At this point, the imminent signing of Fulham FC’s João Palhinha makes it feel like Bayern Munich is officially out of the race for Onana.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Pascal Groß looks like he is on his way to provide some stability to the Borussia Dortmund midfield. BVB is really re-loading to take a run at the Bundesliga title in 2024/25:
