One person has died after a crash between a vehicle and a motorbike near Greymouth this afternoon.

Emergency services were notified of the two-vehicle crash on Main South Rd, Paroa shortly after 4pm on Thursday.

"Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the person died at the scene," a police spokesperson said.

Hato Hone St John responded with two ambulances, one helicopter and one operations manager.

"One patient in minor condition was taken to Greymouth Hospital via ambulance," a spokesperson said.

Main South Rd remained closed while the Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing.
