Bartender arrested over theft of employer’s N2.3m
Lagos state police command have detained a 32-year-old bartender identified as Emmanuel Johnson for allegedly stealing his employer’s N2.3 million.
Police arraigned the suspect on Thursday, June 27 with theft and breach of peace, at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court. Johnson, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, narrated how the defendant allegedly failed to pay the money into his employer, Mr Collins Emeka’s account, and converted it to his personal use
Ekpo told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 11 at 10.50.p.m, at No 2/4, Peter King Ilogbo, Badagry.
“All efforts made by the complainant to retrieve his money proved abortive,” the prosecutor said while noting that offence contravened the provisions of Sections 287 (7) and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Chief Magistrate, Mr N À Layeni, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. He adjourned the case until July 17.
