Here's why 'Friends' actor David Schwimmer wants Kanye West removed from 'X'

The rapper has once again come under scrutiny for his vile and inflammatory tweets directed towards certain groups, especially his anti-semitic vitriol

David Schwimmer and Kanye West

In the past couple of days, Kanye West has been incessantly tweeting all kinds of strange, cryptic and disparate statements, all in upper case, from his 'X' handle. Sometimes, a series of tweets follow each other within seconds or minutes. Among these were vile and inflammatory tweets directed towards certain groups, especially anti-semitic vitriol.

Friends actor David Schwimmer took to Instagram to call out West and asked Elon Musk to "stop giving him a megaphone."

In his post, Schwimmer wrote: "This is so 2022. We can't stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate-filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk. Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X. That's twice as many people as the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews. I don't know what's worse, the fact that he identifies as a Nazi (which implies he wants to exterminate ALL marginalised communities including his own) or the fact that there is not sufficient OUTRAGE to remove and ban him from all social media at this point."

He concluded his post with, "Silence is complicity."

Schwimmer attached to this post a few tweets of West in which the rapper called himself a "Nazi" and expressed contempt for Jewish people.

The compilation of West's tweets shared by Schwimmer reads as follows:

"I'm a Nazi. I don't like or trust no Jewish person and this is completely sober with no Hennessy. I'm a racist. Stereotypes exist for a reason and they all be true. You can get money with Jewish people but they always gonna steal and invite you over to they house on Friday. Jewish people actually hate white people and use black people. I love Hitler. (sic)"

West also wrote that he is not apologising for his racist comments.

This is not the first time West's social media behaviour has raised eyebrows. His X account was suspended twice in the past and later reinstated.

Before Musk rebranded Twitter as 'X', West's account was suspended in 2022 for eight months for posting offensive tweets — one of which seemed to show a swastika symbol and the Star of David — which violated the platform's rules against incitement to violence.

Following this, Adidas had severed ties with the rapper.

In another instance from March last year, Instagram suspended West's account for throwing a racial slur against comedian Trevor Noah.

West and his wife Bianca Censori recently made headlines for the wrong reasons when he paraded her in a transparent NSFW dress at the Grammy Awards, which led many to express their disappointment at West and question his sanity.
