I wanted peace of mind, says policeman who rejected N150m bribe

A Superintendent of Police, Ibrahim Sini, has said he turned down a N150m bribe allegedly offered to him by a Lagos-based businessman, Akintoye Akindele to have peace of mind.

Akindele, who was arraigned for the offence at the Federal High Court in Abuja in August 2023, was remanded in the Kuje correctional centre.

According to the charge sheet, the bribe was offered to allow police to permit him to escape abroad and to write a favourable report for him after the investigation.

Sini, was said to have led the Inspector General of Police’s team of investigators handling the case against the businessman.

Eight injured as herdsmen attack Jigawa communities

The Jigawa Police Command, has confirmed herdsmen attacks on four communities in Birninkudu, Dutse and Kiyawa Local Government Areas of the state.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesman, DSP Lawal Adams, eight people were injured in the attacks and have been hospitalised at the Dutse General Hospital in Dutse, the state capital.

The statement read, “Information revealed that herdsmen in large numbers armed with bows and arrows, matchets and sticks invaded Baranda village and attacked the villagers.

“The villagers rose up in defence of themselves, resulting in the injuries of eight of them. They were rushed to the Dutse General Hospital for medical attention.

Six killed, several injured in Borno suicide attack

At least six persons were killed and many others injured on Saturday, in a bomb attack at a wedding venue in Tashan Mararaba, Gwoza town, Borno State.

According to a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the bomber, who was later identified as a young lady in her early twenties, detonated her explosive device in the middle of the gathering, causing chaos and destruction.

Intelligence sources told Makama that the victims, who were all civilians, were returning from a wedding celebration when the attack occurred near a busy motorpark.

It was learned that emergency services, were rushed to the scene to rescue those injured and transport them to the hospitals in Gwoza.

Kano: Yusuf vows to recover N5.4bn pension funds not remitted by Ganduje’s govt

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, has said that he is ready to use every legal means to retrieve over N5.4 billion deducted monthly pension contributions that were not remitted by the Abdullahi Ganduje administration.

The governor, said it is unacceptable for anybody to deduct workers’ monthly pension contributions without remitting the funds.

Speaking during the flag-off of the payment of N5 billion gratuities to 4000 retirees, Yusuf noted that the payment of pension is not a privilege but a right.

The governor asked the pensioners to write a petition to the State government seeking an investigation into the deduction of their monthly pension contributions.
