According to reports from PUNCH, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced plans to conduct congresses in 25 states across Nigeria on July 13 to elect new state chairmen and executive members.

This decision follows a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) held on March 26 in Abuja, during which the tenure of 26 state chairmen whose terms had expired was reviewed.

Umar Bature, the National Organising Secretary, highlighted the need to address leadership gaps and potential crises arising from expired tenures in states like Edo, Bayelsa, Gombe, and Rivers.

To ensure continuity and stability within the party, the PDP appointed caretaker committees for 21 states on March 29, entrusting them with overseeing party affairs at different levels for a period of three months.

After the recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, further details emerged regarding the election timetable for the affected states.

The NEC-approved timetable outlines a series of activities leading up to the state congresses scheduled for July 13.

According to a statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the sale of nomination forms will commence on June 3 and conclude on June 17 at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, and various state offices.

Aspirants seeking executive positions within the party have until June 21 to submit their forms.
