Osimhen's Summer Saga: Which Club Will Land the Super Eagles Star?

opera.com 2024/5/12

Super Eagles and Napoli hitman Victor James Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli in the summer and sign with a new team, according to Soccernet.ng.

The 25-year-old made history last season in Naples when the team won their first Scudetto in more than thirty years.

Osimhen won the African Player of the Year, the Italian Player of the Year, and the Capocannoniere awards in addition to finishing in the top 10 of the Ballon d'Or as well as individual honours.

Due to his achievements, he was linked to a number of teams, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain; however, these teams have found that the £113 million release clause in his contract is too much to ask.

Given Nicolas Jackson's lack of efficiency in front of goal, Chelsea is eager to bring the Nigerian to Stamford Bridge; however, it looks the former Lille player may be heading to France as he's considered by the Ligue 1 giants as the perfect replacement for Kylian Mbappe.

Osimhen is "one step away" from joining PSG, according to the Italian daily Il Mattino, and Napoli is holding out for the French team to fulfil the striker's release clause. The striker revealed last week that he is getting ready for an emotional send-off with Napoli supporters in one month.

Chelsea and some of its superstars, including Didier Drogba and John Mikel Obi, who have publicly expressed their adoration for the Super Eagles striker and are huge fans of him, would be disappointed by Osimhen's choice. They were hopeful that Osimhen would join the two-time UEFA Champions League winners.

Osimhen has made 28 appearances for Napoli this season, tallying 15 goals and dishing out four assists despite missing a significant chunk of the campaign.
