In a move to address the escalating security challenges in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia has requested full military intervention, according to reports from PUNCH.

The governor's decision came after a violent protest on Wednesday that led to the destruction of personal and government properties in the troubled LGA.

The protest was sparked by the killing of some people in Ayati village.

During a broadcast to the people of the state, Alia stated that his administration has intensified efforts to collaborate with security agencies in bringing the perpetrators of the violent acts to justice.

He noted that they have all been treated and discharged.

The governor also directed the Deputy Governor to visit and carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the scenes of the "devastating destructions."

Alia condemned the mayhem caused by the "heinous acts of violence" and vowed that his administration would no longer guarantee the "olive leaf branch" extended to the criminals troubling the state.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, the State Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet, had relocated to the troubled LGA, and 18 suspects have been arrested in connection with the violent protest.

Alia stated that his government will soon set up a commission of inquiry to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the mayhem, and more actions will be taken to demonstrate his unwavering commitment to bringing the "retrogressive activities to a total end."

The governor advised the people not to allow "the actions of a few to destabilise us" and assured them of his administration's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Benue State.
