In a recent statement, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, spokesperson for the Coalition of G60 lawmakers in the House of Representatives, has leveled significant accusations against Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, according to Vanguard's report. Ugochinyere has urged the Inspector General of Police to stop backing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, in what he characterized as a conflict against the residents of Rivers State.

Ugochinyere, speaking at a press conference at the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday, accused the Inspector General of Police of assisting Wike in his dispute with the current Governor of Rivers State, Fubara, and the people of Rivers State. He voiced discontent with the IGP's handling of the ongoing crisis in Rivers State, which commenced in 2023.

Ugochinyere's remarks underscored the escalating conflict between supporters of Governor Wike and his opponents in Rivers State. He insisted that the IGP promptly take unbiased action to resolve the situation.

The situation in Rivers State has caused widespread worry, with allegations of political meddling and abuse of authority.

“Why has the IGP not arrested those who carried dynamite during a peaceful protest against pro-Wike supporters? Why is the IGP showing support for the FCT minister by not calling to order those breaking laws and order in the state because one man told them to?“

“We are calling on the IGP to do the right thing and stop giving support to pro-Wike supporters because he is the FCT minister," Ugochinyere stated.
