The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Sunday, June 23, 2024, gave details of how Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare, paid the sum of N70,000 as fine after she was arrested for driving on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.

Hundeyin gave the details on his X handle following allegation by the actress that she was extorted of the money and her vehicle, a Toyota Highlander, was taken away with her daughter inside because she drove on the BRT lane.

Actress, Laide Bakare.

She was said to have driven on the BRT lane at Owode Elede along the Ikorodu Road on Friday afternoon and immediately after she was fined, she went to the social media to claim that she was extorted.

However, while giving details about the incident on Sunday, Hundeyin said contrary to her claim, she was actually arrested, fined and she paid the fine before her vehicle was released to her.

Displaying the duplicate of the receipt of the N70,000 fine the actress paid, Hundeyin said she was neither extorted nor assaulted.

He wrote: "You were stopped for contravening traffic laws by driving on the BRT lane. You chose to create a scene. You chose to remain out of your vehicle when it was being taken to LAMATA office.

"The officers were not going to succumb to your gimmick to hold them down at that spot. You rightly paid the correct fine for your offence - N70,000 - into government coffers. You left with the receipt and your vehicle. Not a finger was laid on you."
