According to reports on PUNCH, in a disturbing turn of events, Mr. Takai Shamang, a former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has been kidnapped from his hometown of Biniki in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The abduction took place at approximately 8 pm on Friday.

Shamang's daughter, Mrs. Grace Abbin, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.

She reported that her 78-year-old father was taken by gunmen who stormed his residence and forcibly abducted him.

The kidnapping of Mr. Shamang has sent shockwaves through the community and beyond, given his prominent role in Nigeria's labor movement and his ongoing contributions to social welfare through his foundation.

Shamang is the President and Founder of the Gantys Aid for Widows, Orphans and Needy Foundation, widely known as the GAWON Foundation, which has been instrumental in providing support and assistance to vulnerable groups.

From 1982 to 1989, Shamang served as the President General of the National Union of Electricity and Gas Workers, now known as the National Union of Electricity Employees.

His tenure was marked by significant advocacy for workers' rights and better working conditions, earning him a reputation as a stalwart of labor rights in Nigeria.

The abduction has drawn widespread condemnation and calls for swift action from various quarters, including the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), which recently condemned the kidnapping of journalists in Kaduna.

The alarming increase in kidnappings across Kaduna and other parts of the country has raised concerns about security and the safety of citizens.

Authorities in Kaduna State have yet to issue an official statement regarding the abduction of Mr. Shamang, but it is expected that security agencies will intensify efforts to secure his release and apprehend the perpetrators.

The family and community are hopeful for his safe return and have appealed for support and prayers during this difficult time.

The kidnapping of Mr. Shamang underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures and effective strategies to combat the growing menace of abductions in the region.

As the situation unfolds, the nation watches closely, hoping for a positive resolution and the safe return of a respected leader and humanitarian.
